From Jim’s Family to Yours

Jim and his family know what it’s like to wait. It’s hard to fathom the stress, fear and fatigue. That’s why they are ok with promoting Jim’s Hearts. If Jim’s story can inspire just a few people to become an organ donor, another family might not have to wait as they do. Of course the perfect scenario is Jim getting a new heart – but sharing Jim’s story is for all families; now and in the future. Be inspired. Be a donor. Share Jim’s story.

Why aren’t you an organ donor?

In talking with people about organ donation, a lot of surprising misinformation is shared. People tell us that organ donation will affect the funeral of their loved one; they are too young (you must be 16); they are pretty sure the card in their wallet from 1964 will do the trick; they don’t have time (it only takes 2 minutes); or that they wouldn’t want to upset the family they leave behind.  All of these reasons are valid – that is until you find out that they are not. Minor Hockey and Jim’s Hearts

Jim and his family have been waiting a long time for a heart. This means that the simple things in life become a little more important, and sometimes hard. Like Jim being present at his son’s hockey games. It’s a reminder of why it is so important to be an organ donor. Life’s little things aren’t so little to Jim – but we want them to be. Be a donor. Support Jim’s Hearts.

16+ Months

Jim has been waiting for a heart for 16 months. And continues to wait. Can you imagine? There are some provocative media campaigns out there telling us all to be an organ donor, but the bottom line is this: being an organ donor can save up to 8 lives. Isn’t that better than none? Be a donor – sign up, and make sure you tell your family that you’ve done so.

Jim’s hearts – Facebook

Two years ago, a good friend of Jim and Marah set up a Facebook page where people could post pictures of hearts. The idea was to support Jim, raise his spirits and show him how much we care. Since then, thousands of “heart pictures” have been posted. Somehow, we wish this page wasn’t necessary, but in the meantime, it’s doing its job.

The page is an inspiration to Jim – let his story inspire you to be a donor.

Waiting for a heart

Jim Maveety has been waiting since January 2013 for a life-saving heart transplant. Jim’s family, Marah, Ellis and Brett, know that Jim is not alone in this wait. Over 4500 people are waiting for an organ donation in Canada, yet only 25% of us are registered to be an organ donor. We want to change this story. In Ontario and across Canada, register to be an organ donor today.  #jimshearts
