Jim and Marah made the remarkable decision many, many months ago to allow their story to be used as inspiration to improve organ donation registration. To put themselves out there – in the complete and honest way that they do – is beyond brave. We’d hazard a guess that most people wouldn’t consider being this generous when faced with life-threatening issues.
Which is why it is hard to take some of the ignorant commentary that we receive. Why would someone take the time to spread negativity in the face of such inspiration? Do you think these people kick puppies too?
Jim and Marah are walking a tightrope of emotion – ill-informed remarks (mean-spirited or otherwise) are devastating. They are simply not equipped to deal with this kind of behaviour, and nor should they have to be.
Please know that most of the feedback we receive is lovely and supportive, and very much appreciated. But sometimes it only takes one little comment to bring you down.
Jim, Marah – thank you for your generosity; for allowing the world into your unbelievably difficult story. The strength, faith and love that you demonstrate is unparalleled. You are making a difference and it matters. Very much.

It’s been a few days since I first read this post and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since. My mind is still boggled knowing there are people out there who have the audacity to criticize these lovely folks. Who do you think you are? How dare you!!
As someone who has donated time, money, love and prayers, I am offended by those actions. The Maveety’s have not asked for this. They have not asked for Jim to be sick and they have not asked to be looked after. They only thing they have asked for is people to sign up as a donor so Jim can get a new heart. As someone, who has repeatedly made supportive contributions has done so of my own free will. It is a testament of what kind of people the Maveety’s are that they have received the kind of outpouring they have by their friends, family and surrounding community. If they were the kind of people who “kicked puppies” do you not think the community would have supported them as they have. No. They would have been told to go rot somewhere. So pull your head out of your butt and cut it out. Go be negative somewhere else and pray that it will never be someone you know and love that has to go through this ordeal.
