Jim’s Hearts: A New Day

In September 2021 we shared with you that Jim and Marah were again facing the need for a heart transplant to address a unique type of coronary artery disease all too common in those who have experienced a heart transplant. Your outpouring of support and community was felt deeply by the Maveety Family and sustained them through the most challenging of times.

Today, through the incredible support of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, Jim is on a new path. The truth is that a heart transplant is no longer the best option for Jim. His new path is careful attendance to the symptoms of heart failure, a chronic condition that has multiple layers of treatment with the goal of keeping Jim feeling good, out of the hospital and together with his family.

It’s a little bit surreal to not be constantly reaching for the golden ring that a new heart used to represent, and Marah and Jim have taken a bit of time to consider how to redirect their incredibly positive outlook. What they do know for sure is how much this vast community supports, loves, and continues to give them strength and hope.

We appreciate that this is big news, but not meant to be bad news. The Gift of Life got Jim to this point, and on this new day, and for all the days that will follow, we are with him and with Marah and remain grateful for the miracle of organ donation.
