Here’s the good news: 90% of Canadians claim that they support organ donation and 95% of Canadians would accept an organ donation if they needed one (thanks to the good people at the because i can project for the stats). Now, here’s the bad news: less than 25% of Canadians have agreed to donate their organs. Seriously Canada?? Is this saying that 75% of us cannot possibly put ourselves into the shoes of someone who needs an organ donation now? How is it that we could be so short-sighted, cold, lacking empathy and just plain illogical? Here’s another piece of information for you then: you are 6 times more likely to need an organ transplant than to be a donor. Ready to tear your hair out yet?
We must change this story. People like Jim are on a waiting list that doesn’t have to exist. There is no logic to our abysmal donor registration numbers. Share this information as far and wide as you can. Sign up to beadonor in Ontario, and across Canada (not in Canada? Contact us and we’ll help you figure it out.) Talk to your family about it.
Be inspired by Jim’s story. He’s waiting.
