The blur of critical care tends to take precedence over all else. We imagine that all those who are facing or have family/friends who are facing the frightening reality of the organ donation waitlist feel the same way.

Taking a step back though, we realize that the reason we are here, the reason we are writing, is that most people are not registered to be organ donors. Still.

Jim’s story is so poignant, so real and urgent that we are having a hard time understanding how anyone is not an organ donor. There is clearly work to be done in sharing the message.

So how did we get here? We got here because of Jim, because he needs a new heart. We remain here because he’s not alone, and that story needs to change.
